Missy V. Bateson is a fine gardener and horticultural consultant based in the Hudson Valley, serving clients throughout New York City, Upstate New York and Connecticut. With more than twenty years of experience in residential gardens, she works across a range of settings, from urban rooftops and terraces to expansive estate gardens.
Missy founded Brooklyn Planting in 2008. Her work centers on the care and restoration of established gardens, combining horticultural knowledge with an understanding of design. She works with clients to sustain and renew their gardens through seasonal planting, transplanting, fine garden maintenance and horticultural consultation.
She holds a BFA in Industrial Design 2003 from Pratt Institute, a background that continues to inform her approach to gardens and her attention to proportion, materials and detail. Her connection to horticulture began as a young girl working at Wade’s Farm Fresh, her family’s farm and produce store in Bloomfield, Connecticut. There, she developed an early appreciation for growing , the rhythms of the seasons and community.
Alongside her garden practice, Missy teaches botanical arts, exploring the history and symbolism of flowers through pressed flowers, botanical craft & journaling.
