Missy V. Bateson is a fine gardener, horticultural consultant and botanical arts instructor based in the Hudson Valley. She serves clients throughout New York City, Upstate New York and Connecticut. With more than twenty years of experience in high-end residential landscapes, her work ranges from custom urban rooftops to multi-acre estate gardens.

Missy holds a BFA in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute. Her design background informs a disciplined approach to garden care and restoration with attention to craft, proportion and materials. She grew up working on her Grandparents multi-generational produce farm, Wade’s Farm Fresh, in Bloomfield, Connecticut. That early experience shaped her understanding of plants, seasonality and land stewardship.

Missy founded Brooklyn Planting in 2008. Her garden practice focuses on rejuvenation, long-term care and stewardship of established landscapes. Her services include seasonal planting, transplanting, fine garden maintenance and site-specific consultations grounded in plant health and thoughtful design.

Missy also teaches botanical arts, exploring the history and symbolism of flowers including tussie-mussies, pressed flowers and botanical journaling. She is a member of the American Horticultural Society and is committed to cultivating resilient gardens that deepen in beauty and character over time.
